The Irish Heritage Fayre was a brilliant day all round. Free for everyone, it drew crowds out to soak up the sunshine in Kilburn Grange Park to the sounds of Irish band Colcannon – joined for special guest appearances by guitarist Memphis Foley and from our very own CEO Alan Medley, who joined them on stage for a couple of songs too. Our acapella choir performed too, earning a warm reception from the crowd, who joined in on Whiskey in the Jar, The Parting Glass, and The Wild Rover – lyrics sheets at the ready.

A day to remember

Volunteer-made Irish stew and chocolate Guinness cake flew off the counter at the PlayHut café – gone almost as fast as they appeared. Stalls had plenty to browse and buy, from crystals to curiosities, and our Straight Outta Kilburn t-shirts were back by popular demand – having sold out at their first outing at the Kilburn Music Mile last year, they proved just as popular second time round.

Masseuse Anne Power was there throughout the day too – a welcome treat for anyone in need of a moment’s rest. Add in fun activities for kids, good community chat, and a lot of happy faces, and you’ve got a day to remember. A special mention too for the mini plant pots decorated by kids from our After School Club, filled with seeds and sold out by the end of the day. A huge thank you to everyone who made it happen.

The Kilburn Tapestries

The Kilburn Tapestries display – information boards and a full replica – stopped plenty of visitors in their tracks, with co-creator Helen Delany of Electric Sheep on hand to talk tapestries and Kilburn’s wonderfully varied music heritage, Irish and beyond.
